John Fawson Jones Staff Sergeant US Army "Ret." August 7, 1945- September 28, 2017 John Jones was selfless, loving, and loyal. He was third born out of six siblings in Brigham City, Utah to humble means. He felt his life didn't truly begin to take meaning until he met the love of his life at 19 years old. After only 2 months of dating they would go on to be married on December 6, 1964. He was married to Melinda Benedict Jones for over 53 years. John had many accolades in his 73 years, including 20 years of service in the US Army. Although his favorite 4 years were spent in the Coast Guard, as it allowed him to spend all of his free time pursuing the other great love of his life; fishing the waters of south Florida. He could barely stand to let a new body of water pass by without dropping a line in. Out of all of John's accomplishments he was by far the most proud of his family. His 4 children, their spouses, and his 11 grandchildren filled his thoughts and prayers. Although throughout the years he would go on to be referred to as Dad by literally dozens of children that he gave love and counsel to over the years. He was blatently honest, a dedicated listener, with a strange sense of humor. To know him was to love him and to be loved by him was the greatest gift. He enthusiastically proved his love to each of us and the void of his loss will linger with us all. We all take solace in the fact that he is singing his praises in heaven tonight. John was preceded in death by his loving baby sister Becky Firkins, and his beautiful daughter Carrie King

I didn't know John very well, but after reading his obit I wish I had known him better.  He sounded like someone everyone admired and loved.
